Cameroon
Cameroon is a country of remarkable diversity – from vibrant coastal towns to quiet mountain villages. Many people rely on agriculture and small local businesses, yet especially in rural areas, access to markets and stable income opportunities remains limited.
Thanks to fertile soil and a favourable climate, crops such as cassava, maize, plantains, cocoa, and a variety of vegetables grow year-round. These conditions offer strong potential for local entrepreneurship. Still, for many families – particularly women – turning these resources into a sustainable livelihood is a significant challenge.
Swisshand works in Cameroon with two well-established local NGOs that empower women and families through small loans and business support. With this assistance, women can start small enterprises, earn a regular income, and gain new confidence.
Over time, this leads to greater independence, fresh opportunities, and a more secure livelihood – made possible by many small, courageous business ideas.
Swisshand currently runs nine programmes in Cameroon: six in the expansive, hard-to-reach mountain region around Bamenda in the Northwest, and three in and around Limbe and Buea along the coast.
